The arrival of spring ephemerals is one of my favorite times of year. Where I live in the Ohio Valley area, some of the first flowers start to pop out of the leaf litter in late February to early March. I love seeing these little pops of color on the woodland trail, before much of the greenery has grown out. This early 2026 project was a great opportunity for my to practice with botanical illustration and I had lots of fun playing with different mediums and techniques. There are far more species than I had time to draw this past spring, but perhaps I will add to this series again next year.
